Make Crystal Clear Ice !

When the Ice cube freezes, it freezes from the outside in. That means when the liquid center is freezing, it has to expand. However, it can't, because it's restrained by an external layer of already frozen water.

That makes it freeze but it puts pressure on the outside layer as well as inside it, making microscopic bubbles appear, thus making it white-ish.

This is also why it cracks when exposed to water. The outside layer starts weakening, and so it cracks under the pressure of the core.

When I first saw this, I was thinking "Why the hell would you ever need clear ice?", and as I got the idea to make an LED-in-ice valentine's present, i realized it would turn out pretty lame unless it was double boiled.

So, kudos to you.

I got these ice cube molds that let you make shot glasses outa ice, but they were always cloudly as a mofo, gonna try this on them. hopefully the shot glasses will also be stronger. That's a 5 for you!

take a normal ice cube and place it in water then it will turn clear

Boil the water, don’t cool down the water, but place it direct in the freezer . The water will cool under the zero Celsius and freezes all at once. Faster and also clear! Greetings, Martin

Like he said, what causes the cloudy ice is impurities, if you seriously just wanna make this easier, you either buy distilled water and boil it again then ice cube it ( or sometimes skip that boil) and the fact of using filtered water may not change results since that contains added minerals as well as tap.

You also can use special pools to make this crystal clear ice. Ice sculptures are made of it

I has made it so as you in your Nice Video, but my Ice is White again. No Clear Ice in my Freezer! Whats the Problem with my doings or use you Chemical Reactions?

Freeze the ice from one side only (bottom) and you will get clear ice. As the ice freezes it pushes the impurities and air away. Normally that means that it goes to the center but if you start at the bottom they are pushed out the top.

to make it clearer the water needs to be vibrated while freezing. i think thats how ice sculptors make their ice so clear.

Truly amazing how the mind of a genius can actually help me figure out how coke, pepsi, and the other soft drink comercials make such eye pleasing ice.

free of minerals. Boiling doesn't do anything to them. Go to the fast food shop of your choice, get some ice from the pop machine. Know what? It's clear and they didn't boil it twice. They filtered it once.
