Everyone is surprised by this one! A new trick with ball bearings and magnets. High velocity rocket!
This is called a gaussian gun. and can be seen and bought on Grand-illusions.com website. They have a video almost edzactly like this. Not nocking kip he has some great vids on here. And since he posted it first he deserves the credit for the post. Just answering the q on what it was.

How does this guy think of this stuff????
By mamabunny 1163366768 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveInteresting what you can do with phisics!

By tweakyfuk 1200515620 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit works by using energy transfer, you know the toy people have on their desk's sometimes with the 5 metal balls connected to strings, its the same thing. as the first ball bearing approaches the magnet, its velocity increases due to the attractions, then when it hits the magnet its energy is transferred through all of the balls until it reaches the last one, where it propells it forward. you can make it stronger/faster by repeating the formation above with a space in between each. go to dangerously fun.com it explains it and sets up multiple ones for increased speed.
By Lloganl123 1188845796 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI don't think it's the same at all. That's done by gravity. It'll eventually stop, and it doesn't ever go faster than the original ball. This one does.
By HawkTeflon 1192496875 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove"velocity increases due to the [magnetic] attraction" and as far as the comparison with the desk toy he meant (and said) that they had energy transference in common. As far as your statement, that it works by gravity, you are wrong: gravity impedes the process, so in fact, it STOPS working by gravity.
By tweakyfuk 1200516193 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow fast does that go
By ford32 1176681580 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethey're called neodimium boron magnets
the device your making is a guase rifle (a magnetis linear accelerator) still nice work
Hello from Macedonia - Greece !!!
faster further more ammo
By butterflywings 1228298753 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveExcuse my maniacly humble idiocy but isn't that device technically exibiting behaviour wits technically impossible...? It's putting out more energy than you're putting into it...? Seriously... Of course I'm obviously an idiot & suggesting the impossible but if there's no hidden tricks there & there doesn't 'SEE-m' {sic} to be & that ball is shooting out with more energy than you're rolling the other in then what's the trick...? Would you please take the time & E-mail me the principles at-play there because I-have one of those plodding lateral minds & when I-see something that doesn't fit I either want to know why or why not... In this case what you did doesn't fit physics supposedly so please explain... Maybe we can scale-it up & make a ka-zillion dollars... Well... A ka-billion... Please reply & I'll take some time to think what would happen if such a principle was scaled up... I-know I'm so simple but again what's the trick & if no-trick lets make some money from it...
Robby
There's really no trick behind this. As some mentioned before, it's the same principle that acts in those toys people have on their desks with five balls hanging from string.
All that happens is just an energy transfer. What you see here is just the bearing being attracted to the magnets. As magnetism is inversely proportional to the distance, the closer it gets, the stronger it gets (attraction), hence increasing acceleration and the speed of the bearing.
As you may know the faster something goes, it increases it's energy, in this case this increased amount of energy is transferred to the bearing in the other end! and voila!
Add a barrel and you get yourself a rocket gun
By jasleil 1209083456 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI can throw harder than that.
By many_hands 1206706441 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow many ball bearings didja lose?
By aiyoo975 1197601177 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDid this as a sci-fair project one year. I had like 3 magnets as a chain-reaction sort of thing though.
By lechango 1195801446 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy does this work?
By HawkTeflon 1192496789 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere do you get the magnets
By mitchlax 1191279223 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat was cool- but couldn't anyone do it? I mean it is't so speical. But it is cool.

very nice
By flamingstickguy 1183087737 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThese types of magnets are not made for impact so be warned that you have a chance of shattering or chipping
By Afreakcalled7 1182728805 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI like!!!! :):):)
By Al5ez 1180820001 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removego to dangerously fun.com all one word to find this and some other cool stuff ;)
4 rocket...F**ker
Simkple laws of momentum trick.
Momentum before impast = Momentum after impact.
Mu = Mv
...like columbus's egg. But had you ever tried it? It's really cool, actually.

amazing!!
i don't get it.. any geeks around to tell us what's happenin'??
By amcatch 1163243452 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMetal Storm is actually based off of using electronics to fire projectiles, while this uses simple kinetic energy. the magnet attracts the ball, and when the ball hits the magnet it transfers its kinetic energy to the magnet, and therough the ball bearings until it reaches the last one, which shoots out. As far as it not being a high velocity, think about if that magnet was a high powered electromagnet .....
By yunholoman 1163233340 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou and specops are both wrong about Metal Storm.
In a metal storm weapon, there is propellant (gun powder) between each projectile that are stacked on top of eachother in a barrel. Electricity only ignites this powder, the electricity isn'y used to drive the projectile, only to ignite power which ignites the projectile.
Seriously, like how can you be so stupid to not understand that? Everyone with half a brain knows how Metal Storm works. (....sarcasm...)
