Already saw that on tv....
You have to check for stress cracks on a regular basis on that kind of unbraced wing. Those inspectors were criminals in my opinion.

yeah...
it was "caught on tape" 4-5 years ago...
I am sure there is an old FAA report somewhere that will tell you what happened.
Probably metal fatigue and overloading the wings due to the radical flying required for waterbombing operations..

- This is why they do inspections on all a...
  They do it after every so many hours or annually for civil aircraft. What happened is a failure of the wing box. It happened to a Chalks Albatros a few years ago in Miami. Everyone died in that crash also.

  If you watch the video carefully, you will notice that thr starboard (right side) wing seperates from the fuselage first, causing a violent roll-inducing change in velocity. The port (left side) wing then is ripped from the root mere seconds later. Tragically, three aircrew lost their lives. The investigation reported that metal fatigue was to blame for the failure. Many of the C-130 airframes date back nearly 40 years, so fatigue is a major concern, especially given the rigorous type of flying required of the aircraft.
